Two paddle boarders who were in difficulty and drifting into the shipping lane near Blackjack have been rescued by lifeboat

At 4:28pm yesterday the pagers sounded to reports of 2 paddleboarders who were in difficulty and drifting into the shipping lane near Blackjack.
With a container ship close by near Bramble Bank, the volunteer crew launched our D Class Lifeboat ‘Willett’ as soon as viable and rapidly extracted the casualties before returning them safely to shore.
Deputy Launching Authority Diane Carrier said; ‘This was a very fast-moving situation and with the volume of traffic in the shipping lane and the close proximity of a large container ship, every moment counted to reach the casualties. It’s a testament to the high level of training that our volunteer crew receive that we were able to launch quickly and rescue the casualties. Had we not been able to react as quickly the outcome could have been much different’
