Police close Buckingham Palace Road in Victoria

Police have been called in an incident on Buckingham Palace Road  after man was found with a number of suspect  items on his person.

Police have closed off part of the road and put up a cordoned whilst the items are checked.

The Road has been closed in both directions and Specialist officers have been called to the scene  to assist officers with these checks following the discovery of a suspect item contained within a bag the man was carrying .

Local bus services Routes 11 44 170 211 C1 and C10 are diverted due to incident in Victoria. Services are diverted between Eccleston Street and Grosvenor Gardens – missing the stop at Victoria Station and Grosvenor Gardens.


A spokesmen for the Met Police said:Police were called at 8.25pm  on Sunday, 12 January to reports of a man acting suspiciously on Buckingham Palace Road #Westminster, close to Eccleston Place. Officers attended and the man, believed aged in his late 50s, was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs.

The man was also found to be in possession of what was reported as suspicious items contained within a bag. Road closures are in place whilst officers assess the items.

A further update from the Met Police:While specialist officers continue to examine the items found in the man’s bag, there is not believed to be any threat to the community.

Officers and cordons remain in place at this time. The incident is not being investigated as terror-related.
